The new dawn -  Belfast Coal a digital and connected mine

Approximately 10km South-West of Belfast lies Belfast Coal - A digital and connected mine. Belfast Coal aims to support the strategic vision of Exxaro by increasing Exxaro steam coal production. The mine consists of three farms which cover an area of 7198 hectares and is in a key location, having access to national roads and railway lines to transport coal for domestic and international markets.

With an estimated lifespan of 17 years, the Belfast Coal mine is potentially the last sizeable value-adding greenfield coal project that Exxaro has in the Mpumalanga province.

Due to the nature of the project, significant infrastructure and services will be established including a discard facility, stormwater management systems, pollution control dams, roads, buildings, structures, and more. This development will benefit the whole community, creating jobs and services for Belfast citizens, and for those living in the surrounding areas.

Belfast is fast becoming a spring of opportunity for the emerging working class. Exxaro has invested in the community, implementing free WiFi zones and hotspots.This WiFi community project makes educational and research material, online banking, career portals, news and communication platforms accessible to the public, echoing Belfast’s vision to be a digital and connected mine.
